Water in its natural state, prior to any treatment for drinking. See finished water
When full, how many cubic feet of water are in a rectangular tank which is 100 feet long, 40 feet wide, and 14 feet high?
A | 418,000 gal |
B | 56,000 ft³ |
C | 418,000 ft³ |
D | 56,000 gal |
Always pay close attention to what you are asked to solve. In this problem you are asked to provide the answer in ft³.
To solve, use the formula:
Width x Length x Height (W x L x H)
100' x 40' x 14' = 56,000 ft³
Many people make the assumption that water is usually measured in gallons so, they go one step further than necessary and convert ft³ to gallons by multiplying by 7.48 gal/ft³.
NOTE: On the exam, one or more options will include the correct answer, but for the wrong question. In this instance, the correct answer for gallons was an option, 418,000 gallons.
